Jonathan Biography
Captain Jonathan "Eric" Holmes is the operations commander for the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. Captain Holmes oversees the operations of the Uniform Patrol, Jail, and Court Service Divisions.

Captain Holmes began his career with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office on August 24, 1989. Captain Holmes is a lifelong resident of Clark County, a graduate of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy - Clark State Community College, attended Wright State University and Clark State Community College majoring in Sociology with an emphasis on Criminal Justice, and he is a 1984 graduate from Shawnee High School. Captain Holmes has worked in the Jail Division, Uniform Patrol Division, Community Services Division, and the Criminal Investigations Division. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in October 1999. As a sheriff’s sergeant, he served as the supervisor in charge of the City of New Carlisle, the Uniform Patrol Division, and the Criminal Investigations Division. 

On July 1, 2008, Captain Holmes was promoted to the rank of lieutenant and assigned as the commander of the Criminal Investigations Division. On February 2, 2012, Captain Holmes was promoted to the rank of captain, and now serves as the agency’s operations commander. Captain Holmes serves as the honor guard commander for the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and the terrorism liaison officer for Clark County.

Military Service
Captain Holmes served as a master sergeant in the Air Force Security Police with the 178th Security Forces Squadron, Ohio Air National Guard. He was called to duty by the Air Force on September 11, 2001, and spent 1 1/2 years on active duty as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Captain Holmes has since retired from the Security Forces Squadron effective January 2005 with over 20 years of military service.

Awards & Achievements
Captain Holmes has received numerous awards including the Exceptional Service Award, Meritorious Awards, Homicide Apprehension Award, Attendance, and Service Awards as well as the Sheriff’s Award, the highest commendation a Clark County Deputy Sheriff can receive. Captain Holmes has also received the Sons of the American Revolution Law Enforcement Commendation Medal and is a two-time recipient of the VFW Deputy of the Year award from Post 1031 and Post 8673.
