Clark County Emergency Management

Welcome to the Clark County Emergency Management Agency web-site.  Here you will find information for community and individual disaster and emergency preparedness.  You will learn about what your community is doing to prepare for, respond to, recover from, and mitigate all disasters regardless of cause, and you will also find information to help you and your family to be prepared for emergencies.  Being prepared is everyone’s responsibility!

 

 

Citizen Sign-up

Clark County has instituted the WARN Emergency Notification System - an ultra high-speed telephone communication service for emergency notifications. This system allows us to telephone all or targeted areas of the County in the event of emergency situations or critical community alerts. Examples include: evacuation notices, chemical spills, bio-terrorism alerts, boil alert notices, and missing child reports. Simply click on the WARN logo to the right to submit your contact information to the notification database.

FAQ

Q: What is Emergency Management?

A: To prepare Clark County for all hazards (natural and manmade) and effectively manage response and recovery efforts following large incidents. Federal, State, and County, emergency management agency’s work with other government, non-profit, and private sector agencies to assist the public in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from disasters.


Q: What does your agency have to do with The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS)?

A: We are not an agent of DHS although we share in its vision, mission, and strategic goals. A large part of the County’s emergency planning and equipment funds are acquired through Homeland Security Grants, which we secure.


Q: What does Clark County Emergency Management do exactly?

A: The agency coordinates county-wide emergency/disaster planning, education, warning, response, and recovery to minimize the adverse impact on area residents and property.

·         Implements Emergency Operations Plan

·         Maintains an Emergency Operations Center (EOC)

·         Operates the Emergency Communications Center within the EOC

·         Coordinates damage assessment efforts and disaster funding for citizens, businesses,

            and governments with state and federal officials

·         Manages resources including maintaining the annual updated Resource Directory

·         Coordinates exercises and tests of the emergency systems within the County

·         Coordinates with private industry for use of privately owned resources

·         Provides training programs for first emergency  responders

           and management organizations

·         Coordinates long-term recovery


Q: I have disaster damage, how can you help me?

A: Our agency is not liable, nor do we make payments for repairs. Your private insurance agent can answer your questions about liability and payments. This applies to all personal property damaged by severe weather. However; if your loss is due to a large-scale weather event and other qualifiers, there MAY some relief. Contact our agency for further details.

Volunteers Needed:
EMA is seeking dedicated individuals who have an interest is serving their community through a variety of activities both during times of emergency as well as daily preparedness. Functional areas of volunteerism for EMA includes of administration, communications, damage assessment, resource management, trailer equipment, and public education.

College Interns
EMA can accomodate positions for unpaid student interns within our agency working in all facets of emergency management from exercises and training to planning and recovery. Work is available during semesters/quarters, summers or during extended breaks. We will work with your University/College so that your internship qualifies for credit upon completion.
