NOTABLE HIGHLIGHTS IN REACHING
OUR PUBLIC SERVICE GOALS OF 2009
The Clark County Sheriff’s
Office, actively participates with the Triad Program and (SALT
Council) Senior and Law Enforcement Together. A countywide hot spot
program was completed this year. Hot spot cards have been
distributed at area churches and other designated locations that
citizens can complete anonymously and send to either the Clark
County Sheriff’s Office or Springfield Police Division with crime
information. . Triad is a program of the International Association
of Police Chiefs, National Sheriff’s Association that teams local
law enforcement and senior organizations to work with seniors toward
reducing criminal victimization and unwarranted fear of crime
affecting older adults.
Major polls indicate that crime
and the fear of crime impact seniors. The Clark County area has
over 27,000 residents age 65 or older. Because of the aging of the
population and the increasing demands placed on law enforcement
agencies to meet the needs of the older citizens, it is important
that the county’s leading law enforcement agencies support programs
designed to benefit senior citizens. The collaborative effort will
commit law enforcement and seniors to work together to enhance the
crime safety of older persons. Our purpose is to reduce criminal
victimization through cooperative strategies, planning and
programming, and increase law enforcement awareness of older
persons’ need for security and dignity. This initiative is designed
to mobilize community resources to ascertain the needs and concerns
of older citizens and to provide mechanisms for meeting those needs.
Law
Enforcement Terrorism Prevention Program (LETPP)
Ohio Department of Public Safety Division of Homeland
Security
The Clark County Sheriff’s
Office is a member of LETPP and actively participates in Region #3
events, planning, and training. The Clark County Sheriff’s Office
selected and provides a deputy sheriff to State of Ohio Department
of Public Safety, Division of Homeland Security, to represent Clark
County as the Terrorism Liaison Officer (TLO) for Region #3. The
TLO’s and Area Coordinators for the homeland security regions are
attacking many issues, including the collection, analysis and
production of intelligence. Regional Terrorism Liaison Officers
reporting through Regional Intelligence Groups will greatly assist
in the collection of terrorism related information. By
participating in this endeavor, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office
has procured equipment utilizing Department of Homeland Security
Dollars, without having to utilize any local taxpayer
dollars. By utilizing these funds, the Clark County Sheriff’s
Office has been able to procure Mobile Rapid License Plate Reader
technology. This equipment, when placed into a patrol vehicle, is
capable of “reading” thousands of vehicle license plates within a
given period of time. The information gleaned from the license
plates is checked against information entered in local and national
databases and is instantly crosschecked for entered warrants, stolen
vehicles, Amber Alert information, and National Homeland Security
alerts. Vehicles that are entered into the databases, once
identified and located, can be stopped and checked for criminal
activity.
