Board of Elections to host voting equipment demonstrations
SPRINGFIELD (NOV. 29, 2018) -- The Clark County Board of Elections is planning to replace its aging voting equipment and will host demonstrations from four vendors in December, the culmination of a long process of securing funding and evaluating certified voting equipment.
On August 23, the Secretary of State issued Advisory 2018-03. This advisory discussed Senate Bill 135, Voting Equipment Acquisition Program (132nd General Assembly) and outlined the reimbursement that counties would receive for purchase of new voting equipment. As per the advisory, Clark County will receive approximately $1.2 million from the state to purchase new equipment prior to May 7, 2019 Primary Election.
Over the last year, in anticipation of the forthcoming commitment by the state, the staff at the Board of Elections has viewed all voting systems that are currently certified by the state’s Board of Voting Machine Examiners and the U.S. Election Assistance Commission. Four of those vendors are coming back for follow up presentations to the Board and to members of the public. This is an opportunity for voters to view the equipment, ask questions, and express their preferences between the systems.
The demonstrations will be held with vendors demonstrating their equipment on the following days in December:
