Biography
Lt. Michael A. Young is the Division Commander of the Jail Division. Lt. Young began his career with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office in 1996. During his career he has served in the Jail Division, Uniform Patrol, New Carlisle, Mad River Township, Environmental Enforcement, and SORN. In 2008 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and served in the Uniform Patrol and Criminal Investigations. In 2015 he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and assigned as Jail Administrator overseeing daily operations of the Jail Division. Lt. Young is a life-long resident of Clark County, a 1991 graduate of Shawnee High School, 1994 graduate of Clark State Community College with an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice, 1995 graduate of the Ohio Peace Officer’s Training Academy from Clark State Community College, and a 2005 graduate from Wittenberg University with a Bachelor Degree in Organizational Leadership. Lt. Young was also honorable discharged from the Ohio Army National Guard after serving an 8 year term. Lt. Young has 3 sons as well.
During his career with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Lt. Young has received numerous awards including Exceptional Service, meritorious Service, Homicide Apprehension, attendance, education and service awards as well as the “Best of the Best” Award. In 2009 Lt. Young was recognized by the Ohio Attorney General for the Ohio Distinguished Law Enforcement Valor Award. That was for his performance above and beyond the call of duty and for bravery risking his life to protect Ohioans. Lt. Young has also received numerous awards for his involvement with United Way, participation in the Ohio Police & Fire Games for swimming, track & field events, and softball and has previously won 2 silver medals at the 2000 International Police & Fire Games that were held in Cocoa Beach Florida. In 2005 Lt. Young was also recognized by the United State Police Softball League as the United States Sportsman of the Year. He also was a member of the Columbus Marauders football team of the NPSFL and played for 5 seasons. He also has served as the Catholic Central Booster Vice President for 2 years. Lt. Young has also been involved with coaching high school athletics. He has served as a freshman basketball coach at Greenon in 2002 and has coached soccer at Shawnee for many years.
