What is the Veterans Service Commission?
The Veterans Service Commission is a county agency dedicated to aiding Clark County veterans during times of need. There are two distinct services the agency provides:

  • Emergency financial assistance to eligible veterans and family members who have a demonstrated need.
  • Assistance when dealing with the Veterans Administration. The Veterans Service Officers represent and assist veterans, family members and survivors when they apply to the VA for benefits, with special emphasis on Veterans Compensation and Pension claims and Widows Benefits.

The Clark County Veterans Service Commission has six members appointed by the by the Clark County Common Pleas Court.

The five members appointed by the Common Pleas Court are representatives from: American Legion; Veterans of Foreign Wars; Disabled American Veterans; AMVETS; and either the Military Order of the Purple Heart, the Vietnam Veterans of America, or the Korean War Veterans Association.

Functions of the Veterans Service Commission
  • To oversee the operation of the Veterans Service Office.
  • To provide temporary financial assistance to needy veterans, dependent children, and surviving widows.
  • To obtain benefits earned by the veterans of the county and their family members and survivors.

Veterans Service Officers
The Service Officer provides a full range of benefits and information for eligible veterans, their surviving widow, dependent children and dependent parents through accredited veterans organizations. All Service Officers are accredited through the Governor’s Office of Veterans Affairs, and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

These services include:
  • Preparation of forms
  • Documentation of claims and pertinent data
  • Proper submission of claims to VA and follow-up.
