Qualifications:

 

Qualified candidates will possess a combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates an advanced knowledge of maintenance and repair of heavy equipment.  Possession and maintenance of a valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) is required.

 

General Description:

 

Under general supervision, the Mechanic repairs, maintains, and modifies county vehicles and equipment and makes emergency service runs to job sites.  National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification is preferred.

 

Essential Functions of the Position:

 

The position will generally assist in the repair and diagnosis of major components or remove/replace major components of various truck, trailer and heavy equipment at the direction of the Garage Supervisor. Expectations include the ability to diagnose and repair the following with little or no supervision: clutches, PTO systems, electric systems, hydraulic/air brake systems, heating/air conditioning systems, instruments and gauges, and preventive maintenance service.

 

With some assistance, demonstrate proficiency in the repair and diagnosis of:  engines (gas and diesel), powertrain to include differentials, transmissions, clutches, drive shafts, PTO's and wheel ends, electrical systems including starters and alternators, HVAC systems, steering systems, electronics to include ECM's, ECU's, sensors etc., engine bolt on items such as turbos, fan.

The starting rate of pay is $20.44 per hour with an increase to $21.52 per hour following successful completion of the 180 calendar-day probationary period.  Regular work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., but may vary significantly during snow and ice efforts.
