Clark County Victim Witness Rapid Response to Violent Crimes
Victim Witness has designed a program that sends specially trained advocates to meet with victims of violent crimes or their families in the first hours of the incident. This effort is coordinated by the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office in collaboration with the Springfield Police Department and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
Rapid Response to Violent Crimes through Victim Witness was developed with the goal to lessen the impact of trauma to victims by immediately providing connection with an advocate who can provide support, crisis counseling, and intervention. This advocate will stay connected to the family throughout the investigation and court process and assist with follow up referrals. Rapid Response Advocates Provide:
- Immediate crisis support/education about trauma and loss
- Assisting with funeral arrangements
- Coordinating/linking to available community resources
- Communication with detectives and prosecutors about the status of the case
- Assistance with applying for Ohio Victims of Crime Compensation
- Support and presence in any meetings or court hearings
- Support/education groups for victims of violent crimes and homicide survivors
Rapid Response Advocates have specialized training to assist victims of crime to deal with trauma and loss. The director of the Rapid Response program is a masters level Professional Clinical Counselor. All Rapid Response Advocates are trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and use the interventions of this evidence based practice with victims.
Rapid Response Advocates have designed open support and education groups for victims of violent crime and homicide survivors. These groups provide a direct forum for survivors to express their feelings while receiving the support they need from others who have had similar experiences. In these groups advocates offer support and education about trauma, loss, and the grieving process. Advocates also teach positive coping skills to assist survivors in coping with intense feelings.
Rapid Response Advocates believe in connecting victims with trauma informed services in the community. Advocates work diligently to stay up to date on all available resources and serve on several community committees to actively advocate for victims services across systems.
Rapid Response Advocates will follow up with cases to ensure that survivors feel their needs have been met and that they have been connected to appropriate services.
